If you are a current client trying to reach me, please submit a comment with your contact info (this will not be publicly posted). Comments will be monitored by a friend to make sure that each is taken care of.

More details:

Unfortunately in the spring of this year I became very ill; I have been on medical leave from my main job since that point. I thought everyone had been contacted by an associate; however, I heard from a client yesterday that shows this may not have been the case. As the current prognosis has no near term timeline for recovery, I am opting not to take on new commitments until the medical team can give me clearer answers about what to expect.

Again, if you are a current client who has been trying to reach me, please accept my apologies and comment here so someone can get in touch with you.

Blessings & best wishes to you all,
VictoriaVictoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-52112970189430606522008-03-15T18:52:00.000-07:002008-03-15T18:56:30.364-07:00Vegas baby!We'll be out of the office from 3/15-3/23, in Vegas at the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International conference. I'm so completely psyched to be spending so many days learning from some of my favorite photographers...and so completely weirded out about being away from a full computer for so long!

I'll have the iPhone with me, so I'm hoping to be able to still respond to mail, but if you don't get an answer right away, I'm either in class or have zero connectivity. I promise to figure out where all the free wifi spots are quickly & will try to get back to each of you as soon as possible.

Can't wait to come back creatively invigorated! Those of you with upcoming e-sessions, be ready to try out some fun stuff on my return. :)Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-13533740006810105122008-02-18T16:34:00.000-08:002008-11-13T07:01:29.536-08:00Life lessons from a giant chess set.....I'm a packrat.

OK, the kinder, gentler phrase might be "I'm a collector of beautiful things." It still translates to "I'm a packrat." I covet stuff, more stuff than any 12 people would ever need. Clothes. Shoes, especially ones that are bad for my feet. Fossils. Schnauzers, real ones, I'd have seven if Steve would allow it. Plants, which promptly die in my care. Camera gear, of course, not just the new stuff, but every antique I can find. And weird, esoteric stuff. Like giant chess sets.

A few years ago, my friends Cheryl & Jackie (see the previous post) were part of the Street of Dreams construction event. And part of the landscape design they created and temporarily installed was a giant chess set.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJkM_IK5EGKYtpEB6qRgQnICGSJxRhbwhOvbtrkMEAczELMQnXTPPOSHM2cqqLR-HOOtqZKfqH0GpWm5VGpf2kBxkKVIKbGUWiAVQ1ByDPIkU0t9ymK0DbFz2c9oIrZQSoufhuzLFRadEv/s400/IMG_1904_blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168496024033653106" />
It was gorgeous. And I coveted it from the beginning.

Let's get something straight up front. I don't know how to play chess. Never learned. Never interested in learning. Chess is for geeks. Never mind that I'm one of the biggest geeks I know, that's just not my kind of thing.

And besides that, if one needs a decorative chess set, there are plenty of smaller ones around. Ones that fit daintily into the corner of the living room, or can be put away into a hall closet.

But desire is never a rational thing.

And somehow....I'm still not sure exactly how in this case, except that Jackie wanted back her garage space....desire tends to manifest into reality in my life. And the giant chess set has come to live at my home.

My home, which has virtually no flat land. And no one who knows how to play chess. And nowhere to store more stuff. Especially chess pieces that are as much as a foot across, each. And weigh from 20-50 pounds apiece. But oh my, they're gorgeous.

Never mind that I now have to redesign the entire landscape. These are fabulous photo props and that means I can write off the garden redesign & installation, right? (Note to the IRS: No, I'm not serious.)

So what have I learned so far from the giant chess set?

Love is irrational. It has far reaching consequences. It requires a commitment you may not be ready for when it comes into your life.

But when you're in love, truly in love, you'll seize that opportunity when it comes your way.

(Even if it means learning to play chess.)Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-5280329227143570662008-01-27T19:22:00.001-08:002008-11-13T07:01:30.485-08:00Meet Axel....My friends Jackie & Cheryl are well known for their love of anything with four legs. So it never surprises me to hear that another creature in need of a home has found its way to them. We've been through who-knows-how-many-reorgs, my wedding, her solo cross-country drive to pick up her beloved Mini Cooper, and more conversations than either of us could count about...well, about everything! She's been both a friend & mentor to me, and I was simply thrilled for her & her husband David when they announced they were expecting.

And they've been doubly blessed, with twin girls!

Now, I've never been through a friend's pregnancy with multiples. Watching Gretchen's belly swell has been simply amazing. I admit, there are times I've been astonished at how much she changes from week to week! I'll watch the game, I promise. I'll even wear blue. And I'll knit while it's on...we've only ever lost one playoff game since I took up knitting during the games. I swear, I'll do my part.

But....

We're just 46 days from pitchers & catchers reporting to spring training in Peoria. And I find I can't stop checking all the baseball rumor sites to see what moves the Mariners make before then. I'm literally driving Steve nuts, muttering over my computer as I analyze each projected move & rant about not trading favorite players. It amuses the heck out of him that I can quote stats at him regarding righties vs. lefties at Safeco Field & that I'm following the pitching situation so closely.

Of course, he's the one buying Mariner ornaments for the Christmas tree, and reminding me that Fan Fest is on the 26th & 27th of this month--which day would I prefer to go?

My husband loves me so much, he even bought me Mariners socks this year. (see guys, sometimes socks DO make a good gift!)

So here's to my beloved team....and to the promise of sunny days at the ballpark, hot dogs & garlic fries, and maybe, just maybe, a playoff game or two?

Postscript: Right after I finished this post, the same "beloved" husband came up with an anagram of "Seattle Mariners"--"insert real team"--and promptly announced that no amount of trades would accomplish that. By now--the 9th--a lot of resolutions have already gone by the wayside!

In my case, I'm actually about to start on my first resolution with this post, and I'm counting on all of you to help me keep it. I've been told repeatedly over the last month or so by a number of friends, fellow photographers, and clients that they count on this blog to help keep track of what's going on not only in my business, but in my life. Needless to say, the frequency of posting hasn't kept up as of late, and I'm in big trouble because of it.

All I can say is, it's nice to feel loved. :)

The second half of the issue is actually just personal. When you convert from a hobby you love to a practicing profession, you tend to lose sight of why you enjoyed the hobby in the first place. In my case, the cameras really haven't been coming out unless I'm shooting for clients, and I find that I miss just shooting for me.

So here's my resolution--I pledge to post much more frequently than in the past, with a goal of at least twice a week. And to work on the second issue, I'll be posting more photos at random, setting myself photo assignments on occasion, and taking the camera along on some of the weird & wonderful happenings in my life that have nothing at all to do with weddings and portraits.

Love the idea? Hate it? Topics ranging from life, the universe, and everything that you think I should blog about? Drop me a line through comments & let me know!Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-70168920683526582482007-12-10T17:56:00.000-08:002008-01-09T20:38:28.197-08:00Life's "little" interruptions....My apologies to those of you who have tried to reach us over the last few weeks. We've been dealing with a medical emergency in the family & have not been as available as usual. I'm plowing through mail and voice mail this week as things stabilize, and hope we'll be back to normal fairly soon!

If you need something urgently, please call rather than email. I'll get the message & get someone in contact with you as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience during this difficult time for our family. It's times like these that make the honor of attending your weddings that much more special in my heart--they're reminders of my own, and the joy we share in coming together with our families & friends for happy occasions. Be sure to hug your loved ones, often!

--VictoriaVictoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-84456691594680144262007-11-24T11:29:00.000-08:002007-11-24T12:28:04.414-08:00Leftover Thanksgiving MusingsIt's the middle of the night on your once in a lifetime vacation. You awaken to the most horrendous noise, the loud clanging of the lifeboat alarm. Crew are pounding on doors, evacuating the ship. Adrenaline surges through your veins at an incredible rate. You have mere seconds to grab & go. What do you take? Do you even know where it is? Passport, wallet, a few more layers of clothing as a shield against the incredible cold?

Two weeks ago, I was talking with a coworker about his upcoming vacation plans. A year ago, he booked a trip he'd wanted to go on for years, a cruise to Antarctica. As someone lucky enough to document life-changing events for others, of course the first thing I'm thinking of is photography, so we talked cameras...including backup plans for images when the cold kills your point & shoot. We talked about trying to pack for such a trip, how difficult it is to have enough layers and still pack light. And about trips like these, a once in a lifetime event, so unusual & sought after that you have to book them a year or more in advance.

Then the news yesterday. The boat that my coworker was on is now underwater off the Antarctic coast. Thankfully, everyone on board is safe & sound. I'm sure he'll have one hell of a story to share when he returns. And I have to wonder what he managed to save when the lifeboat alarm rang. I have to admit, I know I'd be thinking, Where are my memory cards???? Where's my camera????

I'm grateful this holiday for my coworker's safety, and hope for his sake he was able to bring more than just memories back from his adventure. And tempting though it is, I promise we won't decorate his office with a Titanic theme for his return. I'm thinking something tropical might be a bit more tasteful. :)

Postscript: if you have the chance to visit the Titanic exhibit, by all means go. I went when it was here in Seattle a few years ago. It's an incredibly powerful, emotionally wrenching display, and it's well worth attending.Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-67212972153179788222007-11-23T13:27:00.001-08:002008-11-13T07:01:33.965-08:00Business update--new lab, proofing options, and packaging!Just a couple of recent changes I wanted to let you know about:

First off, as some of you know, we've moved our gallery hosting and lab work to Pictage in the last month. This will make it MUCH easier for you & your event guests to order pictures quickly and efficiently, without having to contact me first! When your event is posted, Pictage will send you mail letting you know that your gallery is ready. Be sure to release your gallery to your family & friends so they can enjoy your pictures too!

Using Pictage will not change our guarantee in any way, shape, or form. All prints ordered through our site or included as part of your print credit are 100% guaranteed for quality--please contact me IMMEDIATELY if there are any issues, and I will get them resolved.

Second, we've changed our CD/DVD packaging! I'm very excited to show you our lovely new cases. Each case will be customized for your portrait session or wedding--designs may vary, but each will feature 3 or more pictures from your event: One each for the cover & back, and 1 or more inside.

The case below is shown both closed and open, and is lying on our new sloppy bordered proof prints--those of you who have proofs included in your packages are getting a sneak peek at how those look as well! Click on the images below to get a closer look.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivUn3HMlo5qbbnXS1rWNG8Pv-IBsdS3g7Zzi4r2uZ7oQtyqrMRfMQyT7T8j7jZx3NmCPSZXz3yra5r6OkHsOVtzfJOC1sLX6bEhFLGT8Ok9KhBETieTlDL3SxB_RPlUjtgVz2_kkBRP7Qi/s320/packaging-1526.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136153311933885474" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixcOuh9UYjDO0PT31m8s9ZSDti-v7tyCV5cij21wOU4IKzhqM7morrAXW8DzN5CBOCcIPhOADPprVp4yswUFiDb-zUl0CtrjTk0G81806rKRW7vDfnNCwvAawhf0Pt0nIOgzS_x4w1sSer/s320/packaging-1527.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136153316228852786" />

We're pleased with these improvements to how we do business--but as always, your feedback is welcome!Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-19353738669459656682007-11-10T19:52:00.000-08:002008-11-13T07:01:35.477-08:0011/5/2007 - John & Amy's Wedding, Seymour ConservatoryMost people would wonder about the idea of a Monday wedding, but when a particular day is special to you, you'll do whatever it takes to hold your wedding on that day. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2nHgO1L0W6uIXHQ5nI_SlWJEKWE7PBNgDvz5BXCRp8qn9ozFr1HxWC8Ik0kOIkBTTOnfkdmtH1O20b8yWEnGcmy_gnqEougKpaNDUhbyrBcbi6X9KOtNi7qMHO2VXfZefQlcmmpqy8IT8/s320/1105Bruce-67.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5131423201416449906" />

For John & Amy, who met online while gaming seven years ago, being married on this special Monday was so important, they even put up with having to make special arrangments for their venue on a day it was normally closed, wrestling with finding vendors who usually take Monday off, having the restaurant for their planned brunch suddenly close its doors....I'm sure they thought at times this would never come together. Instead, everything went perfectly, and Seattle produced a gloriously sunny day--something very very rare in November!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKMh7A-Zw6j0gjO-7dkfkDFT6Dz5NrWkp-fkc5b-cDnOJlljcHRvG9B7Nquttc7z6eOtggXe39BoS3B0eFV6cgAeHw4Kl4zCp19jFmVO-rWAbh903EOvkgv7Pk5SIOYFKpf5wnkbOgBknN/s320/1105Bruce-88.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5131423205711417218" />
This was a wonderful joining of two souls who fell in love before they ever met "in person"--and that love showed through in every interaction they shared. They've been especially unusual lately, with 10 more inches of rain than usual this year. Marta & I have been emailing every few days with weather reports, planning a spectacular engagement session for her & her fiance Tom. And FINALLY, the weather cooperated in the most amazing fashion! These two are so cute & so much fun together.

Marta & Tom--Steve & I really enjoyed working with you, and we can't wait for your wedding in July!

Limiting favorites from their session was tough, so I've included a slideshow you won't want to miss! Eight things about VictoriaIf you spend any time at all on blogs, you'll find there's quite a few people playing "tag" right now, and the fabulous Katherine of Katherine Tolentino Photography just got me! The object of the game is to write up 8 things that other people don't know about you, and then "tag" other people. So here are mine.....

1. In the span of 2 years, I worked for Godiva Chocolatier, a mall photo studio, a down & feather bedding manufacturer, a business telephony contractor, and a diaper manufacturer. My view of the business world has been a bit skewed since then! I never thought I'd stay in a job longer than 2 years, but have been in the current one for over 7.
2. I flunked sewing in junior high school. Twice.
3. I'm a compulsive, native speed reader. I taught myself to read at age two & simply, literally, cannot stop. I'd rather read than do just about anything at all! Last night, I came home with six books from Barnes & Noble--three of them were finished by two AM this morning....of course, this just feeds my insomnia....
4. I stalk Ebay regularly for a pair of Swarovski crystal encrusted Stuart Weitzman heels I saw as a teenager. Someday they will be mine.
5. I've never broken a bone or spent a night in the hospital.
6. I've also never seen ET. Or virtually any other movie that characterizes my generation. I saw Star Wars for the first time about 10 years ago & still don't understand what the fuss is all about! On the other hand, I can watch Men in Black, Pirates of the Caribbean, Labyrinth, and A Fish Called Wanda over and over and over....
7. Nail polish doesn't stick to my nails for longer than about 30 minutes.
8. Every time I spend a Seahawks game knitting, we win the game. It even worked for the Colts last year. Unfortunately the phenomenon doesn't seem to work for the Mariners. :(

OK--here's my tags--y'all are IT & I want to see what you come up with!

Laurel McConnell (of course)
Shannon, our newly relocated Lucky Red Hen, who I definitely want to know more about!
Gerald & Airika Pope, one of the first local photographers to welcome me into the business
Kacy Cierley, who has the most darling new blog format!
Bill Cawley, whose photography always challenges me to new heights
Auey Santos of Photograffiti, whose blog made me miss my Bay Area hometown :(Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-71886237505054083622007-09-03T17:36:00.000-07:002008-11-13T07:01:38.639-08:00Dresden & Rob--Second shooting with Laurel McConnell!<img style="float:left; margin:5px auto 20px; cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEOAfegNpslXuqu0JcPIWgfDRXmYNc29SKSIQ_tQnRW5YDsoGiX5ak_yzLWvqKovDAeaXfGEYdZiN0340wROtytdK1Sct-fafdz-NEOS2ovTVq8EUD1KceedoUXQEq8EJaRSFomNQ_nRBE/s320/_MG_0443.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5106144713496978434" />
On September 1st, I had the pleasure of second shooting with the fabulous Laurel McConnell! Laurel has been documenting weddings for seven years now, and any chance I get to hang out with her is always both a blast & a learning experience. Lucky me, this was the first of back to back weekends shooting for Laurel's studio. :)

<img style="float:right; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkcnDNkuKkibv4ivzjxhJCQ2pr9HOSjHUwbhAGb6MlNkiDaBcyXturXNRk81mlwLrsKVXkW8g82hQMntHbB3L605IsT8UCkgyZTigcZYpxcv7BMGECiUiuMlphvESNrFFMoFCILlvywax3/s320/_MG_0458.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5106144717791945762" />
This week's couple, Dresden & Rob, are a wonderful couple from the South, whose wedding was held on private property on Whidbey Island. The views were spectacular, the families were the friendliest & most gracious I've met yet, and the site was amazingly diverse--tons of cute little "cabins", gorgeous antiques, and fun activities such as an oversized chess set!

Just a few favorites:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUJC9DMVJcvUW9iSbbM77wcQBiZzkbs3YPG8KTfq7f-DYeVqflB_vjQLhhY1VDX31GWGvFxxensffUIHnhaM2hbYQwRLmLYPp3bvI0Jw5tCk_9n3CwSrqrA0a02Jp5UsczNje8XnfpMIH5/s320/_MG_8357.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5106145331972269122" />

Rob's son Jules wasn't always happy about having to be dressed up--in fact, the shoes were off in about a minute flat, and the dress pants were swapped with jeans the minute the formals ended! Make sure you check out her blog--her photos of this day were SPECTACULAR (I know, I put together the slideshow & had the worst time narrowing down all the choices.) I'll edit this post with a direct link once she has it posted to her own.

And extra special thanks to my own husband, for allowing me to spend our anniversary shooting this wedding. They were travelling with friends of theirs to a big gathering of Model A Fords that's held each year in a different part of the region. These cars range in condition from "Wow, that thing runs???" to "WOW--I'm not sure I'd let that beauty out on the road!" It was great seeing them again, and it was a lot of fun to see these amazing vehicles with their dedicated owners.

As always, click on a photo to see the larger view.

Reflections were the order of the day, and I got lots of practice with them....all that chrome!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHecTXwnZx3Mq-cTDUdr7PnV4eBUNDUZh3kE82Yp389zgCZ5tszwx8Yzzfm93K0Tpx7TPOUXvVPE8q-vG1JiwL-2bVuWaPtbnUFEORzZffNTN5CQcKNMOkJt5z5cjT3Z0SyAf-YaVN-Ce9/s320/Pendleton-003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098031252196625906" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiL-f04jjl4orL4iWOPKmGh-Q0jKKPXdexIMTSJJa5bU4Ols9hl7E5L_To6Uz9_iOd2OuH5kIESeIXbtly1i6hl5j_WKfC8ntgyxL3mK0FMKb1QJQ33lNwWv9mGwAn4lOf6jRrtKrN5Fub/s320/Pendleton-004edit.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098031256491593218" />

We had lunch at the newly opened Hamley's Steakhouse. Hamley's is predominantly a leather working business with some AMAZING saddles being crafted there. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places & is just gorgeous. They were kind enough to allow me to shoot in there--I was a little surprised as so many times you're told no, either graciously or not so! This Tiffany lamp was in the entry; easily 4 feet across & absolutely stunning, I can't imagine the cost on one this spectacular.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhPOVa5zHVhU_6uFNUfxisVjlOs3EfMWLthoy4Y5xH1aOVH6ymDiIXG3V_WgU9eKzy9Dz-4rARYGExdrImMDGYXMC7p5mYVTtWzRPj055bnKfHC95bDzNSjmB2h_SImUNQ1RsxtdkoT17j/s320/Pendleton-008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098031668808453650" />

And I took advantage of the location to get a portrait of my husband with his parents on this fabulous triple throne:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWL08qPFm_gCOPXmTWJwT_7EHP0t-_Ejptcye2TjFyJdh2pyYxen_zawrud7lY9VPZHSI98syyrXyCAsLgRBHgP1uLc8afwv_aggnMDHlYrNegtycxKVNfHT_f0TgXdMsBicyFPAuoQGZR/s320/Pendleton-006bw.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5098031668808453666" />

Then it was back to the cars. Taj, the elder by two weeks, is one of only 100 Golden Bengals in the world--a beautiful gold with cinnamon colored stripes, no black whatsoever. And Almos (pronounced Al-mosh with a long 'O') is a Royal White, with gorgeous blue eyes & a sweet personality.

I went to the zoo yesterday to check these two out as I will be having some one on one time with one of them next weekend as part of the zoo's fundraising efforts--so check back next week to see more! The fabulous Laurel McConnell will be coming with me to document the event, so we should see some terrific photography from this get-together.

If you're local to the Puget Sound area, please consider visiting our local Issaquah zoo & donating to the preservation of this rapidly disappearing species.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsdY7K7uvVmuxXSj3gyyRcakN_x-Y1gq2YySvoLdm46Pqi5yjlU9hOTNLZXJdIFIgHla_S6OeaSbt90nqdzjqhxuy8fx48K1_f-CyQZoo1PixPVjGMNNqIX_GYTY3I2WkNQthqtPZsC0j1/s320/tigers-013web1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5087537446483480130" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM051HgUvfm409EQ3W7r41cqP74Al46dzrJwp5mEfzrtKjrbhn6jSaPakhuYV2sqYQwD3ax5cLUrDrWfqk9JgNa5iFZOyCP7GXOc1IIWgDCFV93BIXu_cSQ0NqCpjr5b8MIYJ6tEncjCbF/s320/tigers-015_web1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5087538335541710418" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKf3t3xBYKioLwnI8tspYcKEkh2LqXklytkpOhsL7Vw0tice98DPmSLZ3mj31bzGVmifgAlRJ3L4M2nltIB2N-of-r6wKHaLcMvnH95TyrBQix24BhB5M5cb1PdqASmvuxzdHu2Q8B0oux/s320/tigers-016web1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5087538335541710434" />

(Sorry for the smaller than usual size & web quality on these, the full res versions are being gifted to the zoo to be used for limited edition fundraising prints & advertising, so these are strictly web sized to preserve their value to the zoo.)Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-29591983734633097802007-06-26T02:30:00.000-07:002008-11-13T07:01:48.029-08:00ANTI-Workshop, pt. 2: The Luck of the DrawIt's been a week since the beginning of the Anti-Workshop, and I'm still so keyed up I can't sleep. So I thought I'd get part 2 in. :)

For Wednesday's assignment, we broke into teams of three by drawing numbers.

The first person I found on my team was Dustin Steller, of Kansas City. Dustin is a phenomenal graphic designer & a fabulous photographer. We'd met the first night & I was excited to work with him.

The second person was Jesh de Rox. Yes, I'll admit to being intimidated! But Jesh is one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met, as well as being an utterly amazing artist. He has the most incredible sense of "play" of any adult I've ever seen, and it translates into his work in many ways.

Then we were assigned our model for the day. Each team was given a "bride" to work with. Some were models, some were photographers--all were wearing different styles of wedding dresses. We were assigned to work with Jessica Claire, normally a spectacular SoCal wedding photographer, wearing a fabulous 1920's flapper dress--and she wasn't allowed to bring a camera with her! I think she had the hardest job of all, trying to keep up with Jesh & Dustin, and unable to capture any of it for herself.

Here are a few captures from the day--the rest can be seen on the website:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkDeyGo_oMOzRwTkwPrMoeoysfKBSDsAuwo52YqGwFubpAul4n2VfoyyfZXLcQK7yc7H5HYgt1c4p_cP4CQTpORhVzFZtMTEGm7cZBUhT2AwK6bfZL5HfGWxfs-njJ2qneO-GldMaVVTJ6/s400/Jess-008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080433910709982178" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYZ5PNj-nQjN76FmcCCZOKmrlDShlIqmj830qxOTQ885cuPv4VtUzEtF7YolOLMOTZ9XQOSYXH-4tDp-5pP4OP0d2YdOeTFXofAOhcXcRAGeLey65TiE_AXnVOtdkQTgenXpcOTWNYj8VB/s400/Jess-007.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080433915004949490" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpLJAM4X6ejG7FWcIexpKONIiMuuB6ql_a0tLgmR_K976P8Qp5Wga2NTgrDwdxmQVg5U9uFn-UpARS-pByaKPcDnBEQ9j41epiyseTElHkzDBLw0jAc_1WKmnjLId2vK1n5pTZnku-cvJv/s400/Jess-018.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080433919299916802" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcj20zTCIHwDYGlUu9gvreZaXrNXUT1fPDBx3uvxUEPwhSqZJkytflUZDExSQpKwufGEXhCoyTypn6hzjzt6FxbTmP67dDuZ7oKw4-A98Le7LXJKRO9tk90k3M5-9LDiZrQumLMnboSrOs/s400/Jess-011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080433919299916818" />

Jesh & Dustin at work:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZn8C8VJomjH2N-OyUvLGmzuEi9dTTbz_qbeZu1xg-ruCYeTWAfkxGSc9TlB3tb88n9ouLCQpawnqcA8ou_3n6R-v1Z3sY-EW7npGnmdCnqRWkMC_i2_FzYdXiUV1vbBLdLDP0ECDNraT0/s400/Jess-026.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080435551387489314" />

One shot on the scavenger hunt was supposed to be "headless". Both couples are fantastic teachers and wonderful people, as well as fabulous photographers. I can't even begin to describe how much I learned from this team, and from the other photogs who participated.

This is just a preview of yesterday's shoot--I'm completely beat, but I wanted to share these three photos as they were some of my favorites. As a set, I think they're some of the strongest work I've done so far. :) More on the seminar & this shoot in the next post, I promise. You should be able to click on any of them to see more detail, they become even more contrasty than usual once they're uploaded to the blog.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjpOkgZnyAFuw_54hAxgs2GYxlkz1p64u2KtI40rNyLsRbXYzELYr_ndiSD0bKBv28oSJU8a3mDK_mujMK_uqPMmFA0XG1WCvtjKQghyphenhyphenyTWKdsxuzURqrUKUL8eL-WMBLiqOMPENBafHZ-/s400/Jess-022.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5078710529312658386" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib7pnfE-AudAs8bw7dhyphenhyphenGd09EXtpPFft6j9xw9_HaoJUtTssuvjUTqN9Wcn56BeC1bDY_4JF0vU9ixCbldMdPdRhFZLnzprYJ2F5FuqT4EF7zqG9xAzXVadXqASMLD0rJoiGWF7IaqJ7_t/s400/Jess-015.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5078710378988803010" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBaqwQJ-dyTCgIlN2-0gI9mSxRIMi_fovbu5_Ny7Fi9hixJrqm4IbzLaUwQjuEdWgAF9jjKzPJwl7IM63jsH87vOsO_kM5vQaHhkGMd5btYZsS71M8JULo8zZT5EXjwSP8gUMBoCoH0r7k/s400/Jess-021.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5078710220075013042" />

Thanks Chenin, Dalisa, Doug & John. I always take a camera with me when we go to the park with Kaya, our standard schnauzer, as dogs do the funniest things when they're let loose with a bunch of other dogs. Last night was no exception.

This little guy was in love with Steve & was in his lap every time the poor guy sat down. Steve's not much of a chihuahua type--like most guys, it isn't really a dog until it's at least 30 pounds or so....

Then we found out he was a wee bit of a climber:

But what we didn't realize was his ultimate goal: Apparently he's had a lifetime dream of being a hat!

He actually did get all four legs onto Steve's head! Unfortunately the pictures at that point didn't come out....no amount of image stabilization will make up for the photographer doubled over laughing!Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-39850491320140514472007-05-12T18:40:00.000-07:002007-05-12T19:52:21.183-07:00Nikki & Bryan...& Charlie too!We had a wonderful time with Nikki & Bryan last night at Robinswood Park. It was important to them to include their year and a half old Puggle (that's a cross between a pug & beagle for you non dog folks!). As young dogs do, Charlie was FULL of energy, so we ran him around the dog park for half an hour before the start of shooting. It was a perfect arrangment; he was an absolute angel for the rest of the evening. :)

My absolute favorite photo was this one:

Poor Charlie was so confused as to why I was on the ground!

A few other favorites:

Full size versions can be viewed on my website under Event Galleries. This is also where the remainder of the shoot will appear in a few days.

Nikki & Bryan, we had a blast working with you & wish you all the best as you continue your wedding planning! And give Charlie a hug from us both. :)Victoria Lynnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02220928322953699845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-98719762854168464.post-6366100969479885922007-05-03T20:35:00.000-07:002007-08-12T21:20:02.910-07:00A Visit to Northwest TrekIf you're a photographer in the Seattle area and you've never been to Northwest Trek, you're in for a treat. It's well worth the drive to darn near Mt. Rainier, even on a freezing cold April morning!

The animals in the park, by and large, are in open enclosures rather than cages. They also have a significant number of grazers in a huge park-like area that is navigated by hourly trams. The windows on the trams open--great for those long lenses--and the drivers routinely stop for nearby critters, which makes for some easy captures.

We went a few weeks ago with a group of Washington & Oregon photographers from POTN; in spite of the early morning wakeup call, we had about 10 people turn out. It was a blast!

The running joke was that we'd have a whole series of animal butts as much of what we saw at first couldn't be bothered to face us:

But finally we had some cooperative subjects.

The bison in particular were fascinating--on a 35 degree morning, every breath created a puff of smoke!

And we spent a good 45 minutes with the raccoons. Last year, we were way up in the nosebleed seats--literally in the very last row!-- freezing our rears off. Safeco has a retractable roof, and believe me, there was no way they were opening it! This year was completely different. While it wasn't exactly warm, it was sunny for most of the day and this field is a spectacular place to be when it's nice out. And of course, when the Mariners are winning! Especially against the A's.

I wasn't sure what I was going to be allowed to bring in, as Safeco has extremely vague rules on photography posted to their website. To be safe, I only brought the 12-24mm wide angle and my 85mm telephoto....with a 2x converter to make it twice the length. It turned out to be a gloriously sunny Eastern Washington April day! What a contrast to our westside rain!

We all agreed that Sondra will easily take any award for "bride with the most energy at the end of her day". Her laughter & high spirits made for some of the easiest photo captures I've ever done.

And Gavin--who's usually known as the photographer at these events--showed us a talent previously unknown to us;
